50 Best Film Adaptations
The movie is not usually as good as the book, but some films will surprise you with their representation of a work of literature. The Guardian brought together a panel of experts to vote on the 50 best film adaptations of all time. There are some movies you will not see — none of the books of the Harry Potter series are on the list, nor are the Lord of the Rings books. One surprise: Jane Austen is included, but for Pride and Prejudice instead of Oscar winner Sense and Sensibility. Short stories and non-fiction stories are also allowed, giving Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas a fair shot. And some choices are no surprise at all, like Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the classic family favorite Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.
