Teen Reading Lists

An online survey conducted by SmartGirl.com and the Young Adult Library Services Association found that 72 percent of teens liked to read for pleasure. But 43 percent of the survey respondents (3,072 young men and women between the ages of 11 and 18) said they enjoyed reading but did not have time to do so.

So set aside some time and get out your library card! We've rounded up some of the best sources for young adult reading lists below:

  • Winning Titles
The Young Adult Library Services Association points out award-winners and quick picks for reluctant readers.

  • Teens' Top 10
In 1999, a task force of the Young Adult Library Services Association identified teens' favorites. J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" topped the list, followed by Louis Sachar's Newbery medal-winning "Holes."

  • TeenReads.com
Offers extensive book, author and general information for teen readers in a fun format.

  • Reading Rants: Out of the Ordinary Teen Book Lists
Presents books with a twist. Quirky book lists include Teen Tearjerkers, Boy Meets Book and Graphic Fantastic.

  • St.Charles Public Library
Browse reading lists by theme, from "Scary Stories" to "On the Road Again."

  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
Points out biographies that are fun to read, books about siblings, fiction written in diary form, mysteries and more.
